Freek Quartier


After receiving his master degree in animation at the Ritcs in Brussels, Freek started in 2006 as a 3d generalist on various projects. He contributed to the Oscar nominated "Brendan & the Secret of Kells", made pubs for WWF, VTM, Proximus ... and created  several celebrated opening titles for several Flemish series like "In Vlaamse Velden" and "De 16"  (nominated for best title design at SXSW.)


This broad experience laid a solid foundation for acting as Art Director for the first time in 2016 on the animated series "Yoyo" the animation studio GRID.

After that successful collaboration, Freek took care of the visual development of various productions for the Ghent based studio. Directing pilot episodes for series in 2D, 3D and life action hybrid animation projects. The pilot for ‘Horrible Tales for Terrible Children’ ended up winning best pilot at  ‘Cartoon on the bay’ in Turijn.


Slowly, directing started to become the main focus and that led to his first big project, the reboot of a Dutch classic kids series "The Daily Fable". Freek gave that classic a modern and fresh new look without losing the charm of the original. After a theatrical release the series is currently running on Netflix.

More recently he directed the sci-fi animation series ‘Interstellar Ella’ that was sold in 150 territories and distributed by Aardman.
